Because a peer review gives you the thoughts and suggestions of your colleagues, a different perspective that will help you improve your writing.

More like what is the point of doing a peer review as a final project?

So are you asking what the point is of rewriting a paper, and handing in the rewrite at the end of the semester?

There's always a point to rewriting, even if you don't get a chance to change the grade. If nothing else, you get a better paper, which can lead to publication or conference presentation.

Maybe I'm not beign the most studious here, but I have a very important question, which will determine my own level of sanity in grad school! What good does it do to assign a peer review of a paper after the paper has been turned in, and due to be turned in on the day of the final exam, which there is none? Am I crazy for feeling as though this is a pointless exercise?????!!

Now I feel better about starting my Master's Program. It's Liberal Arts and Sciences, but it is still a Master's Program, and I truly don't feel as though I deserve to be here. Poignant post sir!
